Recycling your old electricals is easy!

Recycle your electrical and electronic devices free at your local recycling centre. To find your nearest centre, visit the Recycle More website and type in your postcode.

Why recycle?

Unwanted electrical equipment is the UK’s fastest growing type of waste.

Many electrical items can be repaired or recycled, saving natural resources and the environment. If you do not recycle electrical equipment will end up in landfill where hazardous substances will leak out and cause soil and water contamination – harming wildlife and also human health.

We’re proud to support your local authority in providing local recycling facilities for electrical equipment.

To remind you that old electrical equipment can be recycled, it is now marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol. Please do not throw any electrical equipment (including those marked with this symbol) in your bin.

What is WEEE?

The Waste Electrical or Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive requires countries to maximise separate collection and environmentally friendly processing of these items.

How are we helping?

In the UK, distributors including retailers must provide a system which allows all customers buying new electrical equipment the opportunity to recycle their old items free of charge. As a responsible retailer, we have met the requirements placed on us by financially supporting the national network of WEEE recycling centres established by local authorities. This is achieved through membership of the national Distributor Take-back scheme (DTS).

CE

The CE regulations relate to a finished product being safe and also ensure that the product doesn't interfere with other electronic equipment and that it won't be affected by other electronic equipment nearby. All electronic/electrical tools and test equipment are CE marked and therefore comply with the standards relating to the product.

Our kits and modules can't be tested as finished products against the CE standards as the enclosure they are placed in and what devices are connected to the completed kits & modules could impact on the finished product. At the design stage consideration has been given to the circuits and the layout of the PCB, as long the user also gives consideration to the enclosure the boards go in to and the way other devices connect to these boards it would be possible to create a product that complies with the regulations.

UKCA

Since the UK left the EU it has its own compliance mark – the UKCA mark. This has the same essential requirements as CE. There is no recognition of the UKCA mark outside of the UK, so Kitronik products are dual marked as we trade in both the UK and wider markets.

Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS)

In order to reduce the amount of nasty chemicals/substances that are contained within electronic parts & assemblies the RoHS regulations were introduced. Whilst these only apply to the sale of finished goods rather than parts or assemblies we are still keen to do our bit to ensure that as much of our product as possible is RoHS compliant.

All our pre-made boards and modules are manufactured using lead free solder and RoHS compliant parts. The vast majority of our kits and parts are RoHS compliant, however there may be a few exceptions such as the LDR used in a number of our kits is not RoHS compliant. If you would like to check if a product, kit or part is RoHS compliant, please contact us and we will be glad to help.

RoHS compliance is part of both CE and UKCA marking.
