Q:
Is the black polystyrene sheet totally opaque & suitable for blacking out windows?
Asked by: ian johnson
A:

Hi Ian, Yes the sheet is opaque so light doesn’t come through. In theory you could use this for blacking out windows, alternatively you could also use the black polypropylene sheet as this is also opaque, it also comes in a large sheet size, https://kitronik.co.uk/collections/materials/Polypropylene-Sheets

Q:
Hi is HIPs heat resistant and what temperature can can you reach before it would melt. How far must you keep it from a heat source like open flame.
Asked by: Heat resistant and what temperature can can you reach before it would melt. How far must you keep it from a heat source like open flame.
A:
Thank you for your email, HIPs is very much made as a material that reacts to heat. It is a thermoforming plastic that will start to soften around 70-80 degrees Celsius and reacts strongly to temperature changes. I wouldn’t recommend having candles near it at all to be honest as it is likely the material will soften and melt.

Q:
Hi, Is there any difference between the colors? I mean, does the colored coating have any impact on the strength, durability etc. of the sheet?
Asked by: Thibault
A:
Hi Thibault,

Thank you for your question, it should just be a difference of dyes that have been used on the material, it is otherwise exactly the same, regardless of colour.

Q:
Hi, is this material food safe?
Asked by: Cameron
A:

Hi Cameron, I have looked into if the HIPs is food safe, our supplier has stated the following, ‘All our HIPS sheet is produced using polymers suitable for food contact and the pigments/masterbatches are also suitable for food contact. Although suitable and safe in the Health and safety respect, some foodstuffs may adversely affect HIPS and also some aggressive cleaning chemicals if used to clean multi-use items.’ I hope this helps.
