These Translucent 0.8mm Polypropylene Sheets are suitable for a wide range of D&T applications. These translucent sheets have a high light transmission and a smooth finish.

The 0.8mm gauge makes the sheets flexible and therefore ideal for products requiring a curved finish. The surfaces of the sheets are treated to make them suitable for printing (including sublimation printing). They are also static treated to minimise dust attraction.

Polypropylene sheets are often used to make products such as office stationery, folders, files, covers, signs, lamps, lightings, jewellery, fashion accessories, etc.

Working with Polypropylene:

These Polypropylene sheets can be cut safely on a laser cutter (please note the edges will be slightly 'burred' and do not appear 'polished' like Perspex) and unlike PVC they do not create any chlorine gas. The sheets can also be cut using a sharp knife. You can crease the material using a cold or hot creasing technique. The resulting 'hinges' can be folded many times without the material breaking.

Question:

Hi there I am hoping to make a flexible box for photography. How would you form folds and creases and would you think it would be strong enough to hold a small smart phone or tablet on top? Many thanks

Answers:

Hi Carmen, the polypropylene can be folded using a Cold and hot creasing technique, depending on the thickness. It should be fairly rigid so should be able to take a small amount of weight. It would be worth testing it first to make sure what its maximum load is.

Question:

Is there a good glue that sticks to this coated polypropylene sheet?

Answers:

  • Posted by Michael Lockhart on Friday, 6 May 2016

We don’t have a particular glue that we recommended for this product, however you would need to ensure it is safe to use with polypropylene, the datasheet states, ‘ViPrint can be glued with PUR glue or hot melt, although welding is the preferred option’.

Question:

Hi, I need a rain proof flexible transparent cover for a lean to greenhouse that does not go yellow with age or turn frosted in the elements. It is a bendy metal roof structure which provides the base for the sheets. How do I fix the sheets to such a structure? Is it easy to drill holes for tying through where necessary? This will be approx 9 of the biggest sized sheets to be overlapped and fixed. Thanks.

Answers:

  • Posted by Michael Lockhart on Friday, 15 April 2016

I don’t believe this product would turn yellow or frosted with the elements although the full effects of prolonged expose isn’t known. Also we don’t know of a direct method of fixing the sheets to a metal roof, although if you wanted to use an adhesive you would need to ensure this is safe to use on polypropylene. You are able to drill the material very easily.

According to the manufacture the product has been used for vacuum forming, however they do not recommend that it is used as the product doesn’t function well under this manufacturing process

Question:

I noticed that this product is currently on backorder. If I were to order a sheet. How long would I need to wait before I receive it?

Answers:

  • Posted by Michael Lockhart on Monday, 1 February 2016

We are currently awaiting a delivery from our supplier, normally any items that are ordered while out of stock will be placed on back order, and this will then be dispatched once in stock. We would expect this product to be back in stock in around 5 working days as long as our supplier has stock of the item.
