Question:

Do you just use opaque black on an acetate sheet and expose to light and wash off with water?

    Hi,

That's the first part. So you block the light from hitting the parts of the copper you want to keep (the tracks) then you put it under a UV lamp for a few seconds. Then you rinse it with water, then dip it into an etching solution (ferric chloride or similar).

Question:

Hi, I'm not familiar with the photo-resist PCB, could you advise me as to what I need to successfully produce a printed circuit board please? Would I need a special printer and /or circuit design software etc? Many thanks, Gary

    Hi Gary,

To make a photo-resist PCB you take the photo-resist copper and draw or print on it with a photo-etch pen or photo-etch ink. Then you shine a UV lamp on the ink for a while to harden it. Then you dip the whole thing into some ferric chloride and it dissolves all the copper except for that protected by the ink.

You don't need to use a computer at all if you draw the circuit with a photo-etch pen.

Question:

Could I please ask what the above boards are made of. Fibreglass or Resin bonded paper ?

Hi, it's made from CEM/1 Laminate. The description of that material is "CEM-1 is low cost, flame retardant, cellulose paper based laminate with only one layer of woven glass fabric." So it sounds like it's a combination of the two.
