Technology camp – electronics badge
As usual we will be offering Scouts the chance to do an electronic construction project as well as the opportunity to do the electronics badge at this years technology camp. If you just want to do the electronics construction project you should register for the construction activity on the Friday night of the camp, you do not need to register here.

If you would like to do the electronics badge, then you should use this web page to register. To register for the electronics badge you must have been on the camp before and have made a project kit. You will be asked what this kit was so if you’ve not done electronic construction before you will need to wait until next year.

Before you can register you will need to show that you can identify the value of resistors by looking at the colour bands on them. If you’ve not had to work these out before there is a web learning resource you can read through that will explain how the colour coding system works. (See bottom of page)

On this years camp we’ve scrapped the test for the electronics badge so that we can spend more time doing hands on practical learning through experimentation. Which hopefully will make the electronics badge a really fun activity. The split of how the 5 hours 30 minutes allocated to the electronics badge will be used is shown in the bar chart. The electronic construction includes this year’s project as well as an LED night-light. The teaching and practical learning will be run together so you will be told a bit about electronics and then be allowed to try it out for yourself.

By the end of the weekend you will have made three project kits (one previously) learnt about what components do individually and how they can be combined to make a circuit as well as about test equipment. At the end of the camp you will get an electronics badge to prove your achievement.

To register click on the do test & resister link below, once you have answered five questions right in a row you will be asked fill out your details and registration will be complete. Don’t forget, if you need to find out about the resistor colour bands click the top learn link. If you have any questions about the electronics badge or need some help with the resistor value colour bands / registration process I’d be pleased to help, just send me an Email.
