Sketchup CadFace plug-in
What it is: An add on to Sketchup V7.0 onwards that lets you select a single flat face, and export it as a standard DXF file. This can then be imported into ANY CAD program such as Techsoft Designer and Corel Draw, accurately allowing you to do CADCAM projects in a fraction of the time it would normally take. CadFace comes with extensive free online resources including 3 free projects for KS3/4 ready to use in the classroom, as well as a teachers guide, class presentation and exemplar files.
Who is it for: Technology and Engineering teachers who are looking for a way to get CAM output from Sketchup, and teachers who wish to use Sketchup as part of an integrated CADCAM project. Available from November 2009.
Sketchup training suite – Beginners to intermediates
What it is: A set of 10 tutorial films and accompanying Sketchup models. The films use exactly the same model as those supplied, showing you how to build up your skills sequentially in using the FREE version of Google Sketchup. The first 4 films cover moving in 3D, basic shape drawing and editing. The remaining 6 films build on this to add measured drawing, advanced copying and the use of groups and components.
The films come with a PDF skills tracking sheet and a wide range of sample models built using the skills shown in these 10 units.
Who it is for: Schools wishing to utilise the free version of Google Sketchup and are looking for a staff and student training resource suitable across the school to build up their students skills so they can draw and model items in 3D.
