USB powered lamp kit - White (2132)

Build a computer desk lamp or ornament using this simple board. This kit is in a white version and is also available in a colour changing version. The board takes power from a USB port and the light can be turned on / off with the on board switch.

This kit contains:

  • 1 x USB power cable, 1m
  • 1 x right angle power switch
  • 1 x ultra bright white LED
  • 1 x 150ohm resistor
  • 1 x USB lamp PCB

PCB dimensions: 44mm x 16.5mm.

I'm keen to start teaching a project to my year 10 group in the new term where they design a USB powered LED lamp, this kit looks perfect but I wonder if it will be bright enough, is it possible to connect more bulbs to the circuit?

Any advice would be a great help.

The white LED used in this kit is a 5000mCd LED, which means it has the brightness of about 5 candles. However the light is much more focused. It wouldn’t be a problem to connect more LEDs to the USB port as devices can draw 100mA so you could add up to an extra 8 LEDs white LEDs. Each LED would need a current limit resistor.
