Integrating electronics and textiles

LED power board

led_power_board_example.jpg

This simple conductive thread board is easy to integrate in to your textiles project. Firstly the battery holder and switch need to be soldered into the board and then it’s ready to be sewn into the hat, bag, pencil case or whatever you want to make.

The next step is to select an LED, either a colour changing LED or a standard LED with resistor (these need to be bought separately). Using a pair of pliers the leads need to be bent round, this allows the thread to be connected to them. Finally the special conductive thread is used to connect the LED to the power board. This thread can be sewn by hand or machine in the same way as normal thread, however it conducts electricity. Pop the battery in and turn it on and the LED will glow.
