The super capacitor racer is a fun but serious STEM learning resource. It involves a short activity in which students investigate and make design decisions, which affect the distance travelled by a model racer.
The racer is designed for bench top use and can travel 1m - 10m on a full charge. The range depends on the efficiency decisions and actions students make. Charging takes one minute using a USB lead connected to a PC.

Kit contents:
- Laser cut Perspex racer chassis (pre cut, no need for laser cutter).
- All the pulleys, wheels, axles and motor required to complete the racer.
- A super capacitor charge control board that can be charged from the USB port of a computer. This is then used to power the racer.
COMING THIS AUTUMN - TEACHING RESOURCE FROM DATA - The Teaching Resource includes CAD files for racer manufacture and power point presentations for VLE use by students. These are licensed for use within the purchasing institution.
The teaching resource CD will consist of consists of:
- Racer assembly files
- Racer teaching files
- KS3 Careers Awareness teaching files
