Q:
I'm unsure which of your 12v wall power units to use and how to connect them to the strips. Do they come with connectors and cable? the pics of the power supplies seem to have jacks on them...
Asked by: Vic Stannard
A:

This link will give you an idea of what power supplies can be used for which length of LED strip you require, how-to-select-a-psu-for-your-led-strips, this link will help should you want to use the 5A wall power supply how-to-use-the-wall-mount-psu-with-led-strips. Although the power supplies come with a DC jack on the end this can be removed and connected straight up to the LED strip, you may want to use a voltmeter to check which wire is positive and which is negative if they aren't clearly marked. Alternatively you can use a DC socket with it. If you want to use a DC socket then this one is a suitable option, code 4108.

Q:
Do you also stock the 12V DC supply? I have a project in mind that i would like to use LED strip lights in but have never tried anything like it so looking to see if you have everything I would need. Thank you Allyson

A:
Thank you for your question, we do stock the power supply for these LED strips and I’ve linked to it below for you. 2266-12v-2a-wall-block-power-supply

Q:
Could these be dimmed using PWM based circuit?
Asked by: David Rieley
A:
Hi David,

Thank you for your question, yes any of our single colour strips could be as they are simply a set of normal LEDs with some resistors.

Best Regards

Q:
I want to run it as a school lamp project - what other components will I need. e.g. resistor size, 2 AA battery pack, rocker switch?
Asked by: Neil Crook
A:
Hello Neil, Unfortunately you need a 12V supply for this LED strip, and it draws 200mA per 0.5m length, so you would need to make sure the power supply is suitable for the overall length you are wanting to use. We have recommendation here depending on what length you need how-to-select-a-psu-for-your-led-strips

Q:
Will a 50mm section with 3 LEDS' run on a 5v USB?
Asked by: Harry
A:

Hi Harry, Unfortunately the LED strip requires a supply voltage of 12V’s regardless of the length. If size is a concern you can use a 12V battery like this one 12V Battery Or you can use any of our 12V wall supplies.

Q:
i am currently in the process of planing a scouting activity using this and trying to find something that would stick it down onto a wooden surface, i have tried double sided tape and it does not seem to hold it for very long, is there anything you would suggest? thanks keith

A:
A strong glue perhaps? I imagine a small amount of superglue or something similar would do it.

Q:
Hi. To join a section of led strip to a wall supply, do you just need to cut the 2.1 mm dc connector off and solder the wires directly to the strip?
Asked by: Alex kew
A:
Yes that's correct, make sure your supply is the right voltage and can provide sufficient current though.

Also you may want to use a voltmeter to check which wire is positive and which is negative if they aren't clearly marked.

Q:
What sort of power source would be needed just to power 1x 5cm section? Thanks.

Asked by: Clare Deasy
A:
Any length requires 12V

For current draw it's 200mA per 50cm so 20mA per 5cm approximately.

If size is a concern you can use a 12V battery like this one 12V Battery

Or you can use any of our 12V wall supplies.

Q:
I wanted to buy this along with an ipod speaker set which both take 12V power supply and was wondering if theres a way of putting the power sets together and also can you create a video making a digital clock? using these? thanks
Asked by: Fred Webb
A:
Hi Fred, that would depend on the power supply you are using. Power supplies have a limit to how much current they can draw. If the power supply is 12V 1A and your ipod speaker kit needs 1A then you cannot run more things from the same supply. However, if your power supply is rated 12V 5A and your speaker kit draws 1A then you would be able to run 0.5m of LED strips from the same supply comfortably. I don't know how you would make a digital clock from LED strips? Are you talking about making a sort of 7 segment display from short LED strips? It would be possible with a microcontroller and some relays but it would be a big project.

Q:
Hi Aaron, is your 12V 500mA UK mains wall power supply capable of powering 0.5m lengths of these led strips? Cheers Craig
Asked by: Craig G
A:
Hi Craig, yes it is! The link below shows exactly how much LED strip you can use with various power supplies. It's worth a look if you're planning on using some LED strip lighting. how-to-select-a-psu-for-your-led-strips
