Q:
May I know the conductivity of this fabric? Thanks
Asked by: huda
A:
Hi there, Thank you for your question roughly the conductivity would be 50 mho / meter. This will vary over time if the fabric is stretched for example or if the material is washed it can reduce it's conductivity. But rough 50 mho / meter is a good ball park. Best Regards Cullen

Q:
Hi, I have Question about your Conductive Fabric, Ripstop. Do you have a compatibility certificate for this material? Is it oK to touch the skin? If yes, can you please send me the certificate. I am using it in a project where the material should be in direct contact with the skin. Please reply me as soon as possible. Many thanks, Shiemaa
Asked by: Shiemaa Sidahmed
A:

Hi Shiemaa, The only information regarding this product we have is located I n the datasheet and we aren’t able to get a compatibility certificate. I have contacted the supplier to get if this material is suitable for skin contact and they have stated that the fabric is tin/nickel over silver-plated nylon. This is safe for humans to handle; however, skin oils will eventually cause the fabric to oxidize, changing both its colour and conductivity.

Q:
Does the resistance change when the fabric is stretched?
Asked by: Dzung Nguyen
A:

Hello Dzung, Firstly I would like to apologise for the confusion as this product doesn’t stretch. The product you need to look at if you require it to be stretchy is product 2717. The conductivity the fabric may alter slightly when stretched. We measured around a 10% decrease in conductivity when full stretched.

Q:
My dad sweats heavily when having a diabetic hypo. I would like to make a sweat switch, maybe two conductive layers plus cotton insulator for him to lie on in bed, using a low voltage, maybe AC bias to trigger an alarm. Would your material be suitable? Thanks
Asked by: N King
A:

In theory this might work if set up correctly but we can’t be responsible if the system fails, as such we are unable to provide any details regarding this. Homemade equipment could fail at any time and as such this should be kept in mind.

Q:
Hi. can this material be used as a switch to power LED's off a 3v Lithium coin cell? Ie touching two pieces together to complete the circuit? If so, would the material be affected if it was in direct contact with human skin during use as a switch? Thanks!
Asked by: harry
A:

Yes it could be used as a switch although it may be better to use Conductive Hook & Loop (Velcro) Strip - 2.5 cm x 10 cm as this will give a better connection. Also the material won’t be affected being in touch with skin.

Q:
IS THIS MATERIAL SUITABLE FOR MAKING A GROUNDING SHEET FOR SLEEPING ON? OR DO YOU SUPPLY ANY SUCH FABRIC?
Asked by: TONY KING
A:
Do you mean for grounding yourself electrically? It would do the job if you wired it to a radiator or similar. If you plan on lying on it though the stretch fabric is a lot softer.

Q:
Will this material be suitable for making iPad drumsticks. Regards.
Asked by: Alan Simm
A:
The material is conductive and when sewn into the fingers of gloves it lets them work with touch screens. I am not really sure what an iPad drumstick is so i can't comment on the suitability. You'd have to try it to be sure.
